The following is an E-mail this site is sending to all German parliament members and media outlets. Combined,

Dear Sir or Madame,
The Bundestag’s recent decision to ban Canadian seal products is a great tragedy for democracy and truth. The
decision was made based on a 2001 report from veterinarians who were organized and paid for by the International
Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW). Other veterinarian reports do not support these findings. The 2002 Canadian
Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) report nor the World Wildlife Fund supported Independent Veterinarians
Working Group (IVWG) report in 2005.The IVWG report stated,

“Perception of the seal hunt seems to be based largely on emotion, and on visual
images that are often difficult even for experienced observers to interpret with
certainty. While a hakapik strike on the skull of a seal appears brutal, it is humane
if it achieves rapid, irreversible loss of consciousness leading to death.”

There is no science to back the animal rights stand on the seal hunting issue. The ICUN, Greenpeace
International, World Wildlife Fund and others all agree that sealing is not a conservation issue and that
sealing in Canada is humane yet the German parliament has chosen to back an animal rights agenda driven by
propaganda and emotion.
The seal hunt is the most regulated and monitored hunting in the world. The harp seal population has grown for
decades and presently stands at almost 6,000,000 animals. For decades independent veterinarians have said the hunt
is as humane as any abattoir in western society. However, emotion and gory pictures (which could be obtained in
any EU abattoir) combined with an unquestioning, uncritical media have “sold” the animal rights message to
European politicians and public.
Most Germans believe that Canada is one of the world’s most civilized countries and yet German politicians pass
acts condemning them as, to use the language of the animal rights movement, “barbarians and murders”. As any
hunter or abattoir worker in the EU can tell you, skinning an animal alive is both difficult and counterproductive
yet in the eyes of German politicians these otherwise civilized Canadians do this. Such an assertion by the
Bundestag is the triumph of fiction over fact: propaganda reigns supreme.
The almost 450,000 hunters in Germany should stand up and take notice of this decision. Seals are merely a tactic
to enable the animal rights movement to achieve its goal of eliminating all animal usage by man: good-bye
lederhosen, good-bye bratwurst.
Canadians, Americans, Europeans and most other civilized peoples accept the idea of animal welfare
(sound conservation and humane killing) and reject the concept of animal rights (the end of man’s usage of animals
for any purpose). Despite this the Bundestag is supporting an animal rights agenda which is hiding its true goals
behind a propaganda campaign designed to make people think sealing, or any other animal use, is an animal welfare
issue.
This is a travesty of fiction over fact and has been driven for years by the following dictum.

Hundreds of thousands of ordinary citizens in the EU, Canada, the USA and elsewhere support animal welfare and
are horrified by the ability of animal rights groups to manipulate politicians and the media: to see agenda
driven groups force their opinions upon the general public.

multi-million dollar propaganda campaign of the animal rights movement.
Through the site, citizens will be able to contact German politicians and media asking that they look
seriously at what is being done by the animal rights movement. Asking that facts rather than fantasy,
that science rather than emotion, that rational thought rather than
propaganda be the guiding force behind their actions as parliamentarians or media presenters.
You are not being asked to accept these views without question but simply that you investigate the question
carefully and fully before acting to condemn.
